Get Ready Glasgow – 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships Business Engagement Event

Glasgow Life, in partnership with 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships event organisers and Glasgow Chamber of Commerce held their in-person Get Ready Glasgow – 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships Business Engagement Event at Platform on Thursday, 30 March 2023. More than 140 business representatives registered to attend the engagement event that sought to tell people more about the cycling event, the likely build-up period/activity pre-event and how they could make the most of the opportunity. It also gave businesses reassurance that the information they need to plan ahead will become available shortly.

The Get Ready Glasgow team plan to hold more engagement events in May and June, so please continue to check the website and twitter regularly. In the meantime, if you have any questions then please contact GetReadyGlasgow@glasgow.gov.uk.

Road Closure Maps

From 3-12 August 2023, the inaugural 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships will be hosted in Glasgow and across Scotland. It will be the single biggest cycling event in history, bringing together for the first time 13 existing UCI World Championships into one mega event.

Glasgow is hosting eight of the world championships across five venues in the city. This includes the road race world championships which will see elite athletes taking to city streets on five days of competition.

The Road Race World Championship competition dates:

• Saturday 5 August – Juniors
• Sunday 6 August – Men Elite
• Tuesday 8 August – Team Time Trial Mixed Relay
• Saturday 12 August – Men Under 23
• Sunday 13 August – Women Under 23 & Elite and Para-Cycling

Hosting these road races with courses to build and large numbers of riders and spectators to manage will, inevitably, impact on city operations and being able to move around the city. Therefore, we are providing as much information as possible regarding the potential impacts, parking restrictions and road closures, to let people plan ahead. Road closures, on or near the road race route, will come into effect from 0001hours, Friday 4 August until 2359hours, Tuesday 8 August and then again on 0001hours, Saturday 12 August until 2359hours, Sunday 13 August. 

Business Guide

The Get Ready Glasgow Business Ready Guide has recently been released and can be found here – https://www.getreadyglasgow.com/cycling-worlds/businesses on the Get Ready Glasgow website. The Get Ready Glasgow Business Ready Guide has been produced by event delivery partners to provide businesses located in and around the city with a variety of information related to the event, as well as useful contacts, potential opportunities and areas that they should be planning for.

It provides information around the venues being used and the dates, information on the road routes, potential impacts, and how, as a city, we can be ready and prepared to welcome athletes, media and visitors from around the world, in August. 

23 Million Mile Challenge

Are you interested in getting involved in the activities planned in the lead up to 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships? Look out for the 23 Million Mile Challenge that will be launched April 25. This is a contest aiming to get the nation to collectively cycle 23 million miles in time for the start of the first event! From commuters, to recreational cyclists, people will be able to contribute as much or as little as you want – from 1 mile to 100! A tracker will show you live progress towards your goal, with prizes being awarded as milestones are reached and a celebration as the target is achieved ahead of the Championships.

The squiggly bike logo has been designed so that it may be used in the lead up to and after the 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships comes to an end, with an aim of inspiring people to celebrate the #PowerOfTheBike. You can apply the free-to-use squiggly bike logo anywhere, from websites to social media, email signatures to flyers. This logo can be used across promotions, communications, and assets as a great way of enabling and encouraging more people to get into cycling!
